Women's Soccer Regional Playoffs Mark End of the Road for 2018

Citrus Women's Soccer travelled to Rio Hondo College Saturday to compete for a shot at the Southern California Regional Championship. The Owls qualified for the playoff bracket in the #10 spot. The loss in the 2nd round of the single elimination bracket means the end of the road for the 2018 Owls, in what was a hard fought season. 

Citrus' lone goal on the day came from Freshman Ruth MacDonaugh, who has led the Owls in scoring all season. The forward ends the season with 12 goals to lead the Owls squad. The game was the 21st of the season for Citrus, who enjoyed marked success in the preseason portion of their schedule. The Owls went 8-2-2 leading up to conference play and even approached the top 20 teams in the state at several points. Conference play was a different tune though, as the 

Owls struggled with consistency and went 2-4-2 in a tough WSC East. The power points Citrus earned through various categories was still enough to qualify them for regionals though, and the team would draw the #7 seed in Rio Hondo. 

The Owls end the season having improved significantly over 2017, when they went 6-9-4 overall, missing the playoffs altogether. This year's team found rhythm early, and a group of sophomores who exhibited solid leadership skills are in large part responsible for the tight-knit group's success. 

Citrus graduates nine sophomores from the 2018 roster, but a large group of hard working and competitive Freshmen will undoubtedly come into 2019 ready to improve yet again on the team's success.
