Women's Soccer: Record Breaking Season Ends in Accolades for Owls

Glendora, CA - After a record breaking season, the Citrus College Women's Soccer program raked in the accolades this past week. Sophomore defender Zeanna Silva was named the 2019 WSC South Defensive Player of the Year, while head coach Tim Tracey was named the Coach of the Year in the conference. Additionally, the Owls had 11 different players named All-WSC.

In his 17th year at the helm, Tracey earned Coach of the Year honors for the third time in his career. In 2019, Tracey guided the Owls to a 15-6-1 mark overall and a 12-2 record in WSC South play. The 12 wins totaled 36 points in conference play, two more than the next closest team, leading to the first ever conference title in Women's Soccer for Citrus College.

Silva meanwhile was named the first ever Defensive Player of the Year in the WSC South. She was part of a defense that acquiesced just 24 goals this year, the fifth fewest in the WSC. Citrus posted a 1.11 GAA (also the fifth fewest in the conference). Silva also served as a major part of Citrus' set pieces, pounding home four goals this season.

Aside from Silva's honors, a record number of five Owls earned 1st team All-WSC nods. Sophomore Isabela DeLeon paced the nominations with a team leading 39 points on 15 goals and nine assists. Freshman Amethyst Trang also picked up honors after 25 points that includes nine goals and seven assists, as did Freshman Berenice Mancinas who added eight goals and six assists for 22 points. Rounding out the first team selections were sophomore Cheyanne Schaffer and freshman Jovanna Maciel. Both helped anchor the stout Citrus defense, with Maciel adding a pair of assists.

Three freshman and a sophomore would earn All-WSC South 2nd team honors. Sophomore defender Sydney Estrada led the way, turning her 21 appearances into a goal and a pair of assists while aiding the defense. Freshman Monica Perez had 28 points for the Owls, with nine goals and a team best 10 assists. Freshman Alyssa Lopez chipped in with a goal and an assist, while freshman Brianna Jara also proved a pivotal member of the staunch Owl "D".

Rounding out the awards were freshman midfielder Jillian Santiago and freshman keeper Deziree Valdez, who earned All-WSC South Honorable Mention honors. Santiago appeared in 19 games for Citrus scoring once and adding an assist. Valdez meanwhile started 20 games in net for Citrus, recording a .800 save percentage and a 1.19 GAA. Valdez finished the year with 89 saves and six shutouts.
