Ventura, CA -- After a two absence from the pool, the Citrus College Women's Swimming team resumed competition on Saturday afternoon at the 2013 Western State Conference Pentathlon hosted by Ventura College. Half the battle for the Owls, was just getting into the water after a two year absence from competitive swimming, but Citrus exceeded even that, thanks in large part to freshman Chelsea Fujita-Hafner who took 25th overall in the Pentathlon out of 70 swimmers.

Fujita-Hafner competed in all five events for the Owls on Saturday swimming in the 100 Fly, 100 Back, 100 Breast, 100 Free, and 100 Individual Medley. Fujita-Hafner had her best finish in the 100 Fly where she took seventh overall with a time of 1:07.73. She also took 20th in the 100 Free (1:01.02) and 19th in the 100 Brest (1:21:42). Her overall time on the day was 6:09.28.

Along with Fujita-Hafner's strong debut, freshman Kirsten Pampu also had a strong start to her Citrus career. Pampu finished 35th overall with an overall time of 6:19.19. Freshmen Kelsey Droegemueller (46th), Bobbie Mitchell (48th), Julie Gongwer (49th), and Marisa Moreno (50th), all finished in the Top 50 for the Owls.

Citrus will be back out on the deck next weekend when they stay a little more local to take part in the Mt. San Antonio College Invitational. The two day event starts Friday February 22nd, at 1:30 PM in Walnut.
