Owls Show Up Strong at Mt. SAC Invite

Walnut, CA -- The Citrus College Women's Swim team continued their return to CCCAA competition this past weekend when they participated in the Mt. San Antonio College Invitational. The Owls competed alongside teams from across the State, showing up strong before winding up with an 18th place finish.

The Owls placed inside the Top 20 in both Medley Relay events over the weekend. Lora Marquez-Salgado, Kirsten Pampu, Chelsea Fujita-Hafner, and Gabi Debia all teamed up to swim the 200 and 400 yard Medley Relays for the Owls. They placed 18th in both events posting a time of 4:55.83 in the 400 and 2:11.72 in the 200.

Individually, it was three swimmers that stood out for the Owls across nine events. Fujita-Hafner continued to be a force in the water finishing 22nd in the 50 Free (27.01), 16th in the 50 Fly (29.58), 39th in the 100 Free (1:00.71), and 18th in the 100 Fly (1:08.30).

Pampu also had a good day for Citrus, posting team best finishes of 50th in the 200 Free (2:17.11), 47th in the 50 Back (35.01), and 41st in the 100 Back (1:16.92). Marianna Preciado rounded out the superlatives for the Owls, finishing a team best 47th in the 50 Breast (39.60) and 37th in the 100 Breast (1:25.80).

The Owls will be back out on the pool deck on Friday March 1st when they take part in their first conference scoring meet of the year. The Western State Conference Quad #1 will take place at Bakersfield College and will put the Owls against Cuesta, LA Pierce, and Bakersfield Colleges. The first event is set for a 2:30 PM start.
