Furuto Headlines Owls Effort at WSC Pentathlon

Valley Glen, CA -- Citrus College freshman Miranda Furuto headlined the Citrus College effort at the 2015 Western State Conference Pentathlon that kicked off the 2015 for the Citrus College Women's Swim program. Furuto finished 6th in the five event challenge that featured over 125 swimmers from around the WSC.

Furuto posted a combined time of 5:47.46 through the five events of the 100 Butterfly, 100 Back, 100 Breast, 100 Free, and 100 Individual Medley. Furuto had the top time for the Owls in the Fly (8th Place | 1:08.64), Back (10th Place | 1:10.34), Free (4th Place | 57.91), and IM (5th Place | 1:09.28). Only freshman Cassidy Miller beat out Furuto in an event, as she finished in 15th place to Furuto's 19th place (1:21.29) finish in the 100 Breast with a time of 1:19.70.

Coming in behind Furuto in the total pentathlon standings were a trio of three more freshmen in Katelyn Rivas (29th Place | 6:11.95), Alexandria Romero (30th Place | 6:14.70), and Elaine Hodge (31st Place | 6:17.13). Hodge posted the second best Citrus times in both the Fly (20th Place | 1:11.62) and the Free (30th Place | 1:02.81), while Rivas had the second best finish in the IM (26th Plaace | 1:13.06). Rounding out the top individual performances on the day was sophomore Kimberly Torres who took 30th place in the 100 Back with a time of 1:13.08.

The Owls will be back out in the water this coming weekend as they participate in the Mt. SAC Invitational. The two day event begins on Friday at 8:00 AM.
