Walnut, CA -- The Citrus College Women's Swim program participated in their second event of their 2015 schedule over Friday and Saturday when they participated in the 2015 Mt. San Antonio College Invitational. The Owls had a solid weekend, amassing 183 points and finishing in 9th place out of the 14 competing teams.

The Owls had a number of strong performances on the weekend, including in four relay events. The 200 Medley Relay set the tone early as sophomore Kimberly Torres (backstroke), freshman Cassidy Miller (breaststroke), freshman Katelyn Rivas (butterfly), and freshman Miranda Furuto (freestyle) teamed up to finish in 8th place out of 25 different teams with a time of 2:07.51. They followed that performance up on Saturday with a 6th Place finish out of 22 different squads in the 400 Medley Relay with a time of 4:37.86

Freshmen Alexandria Romero and sophomore Laurent Quintero would team up with Rivas and Furuto in the 200 and 400 Free Relay teams. In the 400 on Friday, that team finished 10th out of 24 teams with a time of 4:08.78, before coming back on Saturday with a 6th place finish out of 25 teams in the 200 with a time of 1:50.94.

Individually , Rivas finished in 14th place in the 200 Individual Medley, posting a time of 2:36.52. Miller was strong in both the 100 and 50 Breast, finishing in 11th (1:17.54) and 9th (36.52) Place respectively. Freshman Anahit Markosian also had a good showing in the 50 Breast with a time of 37.88 seconds, good enough for 14th Place overall. Romero meanwhile would have a strong swim in the 500 Free, finishing in 14th Place with a time of 6:07.04.

Rounding out the superlatives on the weekend was of course Furuto. Furuto finished in 14th Place overall in the 100 Free (58.78) and 8th Place overall in the 50 Free (26.51). Most impressively though was her performance in the 50 Fly where she won the whole enchilada, besting 45 other swimmers with a time of 28.70.

The Owls will be back out on the deck this Friday when they open up Western State Conference meet action at Los Angeles Valley College. Citrus will be taking on the Monarchs as well as Bakersfield College, Santa Barbara City College, and Santa Monica College. The meet is set for a 2:30 PM start.
