Owls Open Up Season With Good Start at WSC Pentathlon

Ventura, CA - The Citrus College Women's Swim team kicked off their 2016 season over the weekend at the 2016 Western State Conference Pentathlon, hosted by Ventura College. On the whole, the Owls had a strong showing, with freshman Marissa Kasnetsis and sophomore Katelyn Rivas leading the charge.

The meet featured five events each of 100 yards in length. Kasnetsis had the best overall finish of any Owl, coming in 18th place with a total time of 6:07.39. Rivas was just eight seconds off her overall pace, finishing in 22nd place with a total time of 6:15.47.

In the individual events, it was sophomore Carly Casillas who got the Owls off to a good start in the 100 Back, finishing in 29th place with a time of 1:15.86. Kasnetsis and Rivas would finish in 31st and 34th places respectively in that event. In the 100 Free it was freshman Sabrina Fregoso who had the top time of 1:03.55 and coming in 30th place. Kasnetsis would finish just behind Fregoso in 31st, while Rivas wasn't far back in 34th place.

Sophomore Delaney Moller would pace the Owls effort in the 100 Breast, finishing in 22nd place with a time of 1:23.50, with Kasnetsis coming in 25th place and Rivas 34th. Kasnetsis would have the top Owl time in the last two events, finishing in 17th place in the 100 Fly (1:13.90) and the top finish of the day coming in 12th (1:11.36) in the 100 Individual Medley. Rivas finished in 22nd and 28th place respectively.

The Owls will take a break from action this week before returning to the deck on Friday and Saturday February 26th and 27th when they participate in the Mt. San Antonio College Invitational.
