Owls Swim Into Action for 2022

Citrus College opened the 2022 season at the Western State Conference Invite No. 1.

Sey Currie posted a fifth-place finish in the 50-yard free, touching the wall in 29 seconds flat. Four Owls finished just outside the top-10: Gabby Orozco (30.11 seconds), Mia Pfutzenrueter (31.12 seconds), Amanda Herrera (33.47 seconds) and Sophia Leon (35.18 seconds).

Currie also had a top-five finish in the 100-yard fly, finishing in 1:04.97. Herrera took 10th in 1:16.64, while Leon was right behind her in 1:18.57.

Orozco led the Owls in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:30.78 seconds. Pfutzenrueter touched the wall right after her in 1:30.92 seconds and Sabrina Rodriguez finished in 1:43.26.

The women's 200-yard free relay team took fourth with a cumulative time of 2:13.53.

On the men's side, Matty Roebuck finished third overall in the 100-yard fly with a time of 1:03.09.

Julian Nichols took third in the 50-yard free with a time of 23.41 seconds to win his heat. Matteo Velasquez finished behind Nichols in the heat with a time of 26.02 seconds, taking ninth overall.

Nichols also grabbed third in the 100 free with a time of 52.38 seconds. Ian Tauer clocked in at 57.38 seconds for eighth and Izaiah Salinas took 11th in 1:01.18.

Roebuck also took fifth overall and first in his heat in the 200 free with a time of 2:0 5.94 seconds, while Tauer followed in 2:09.80 for sixth. Salinas posted a time of 2:16.06 in the event.

Velasquez led the Owls in the 100 breast, clocking in at 1:17.63. Jacob Perez posted a time of 1:23.41 in the event.

The Owls' 200-yard men's free relay team grabbed fifth with a time of 1:42.78 just one second behind third place.

Citrus next heads to the Mt. SAC Swimming and Diving Invitational on Feb. 25.
