Citrus Volleyball picked up its 2nd Western State Conference South victory of the 2019 season on Friday, topping West LA on the road in 5 sets, 25-15, 25-15, 23-25, 24-26, 15-5.

Citrus came out of the gate firing on all cylinders, as they quickly went up 2-0 after holding the Wildcats to 15 points in each of the first two sets. But the home team would not go down without a fight. West LA proceeded to push back on the Owls, taking the 3rd set 25-23 and gaining significant momentum. Citrus would regroup between sets, looking to close out the Wildcats in 4 sets. But once again the home team scrapped together another win, narrowly edging out the visitors 26-24 to force the 5th set.

The Owls would find their rhythm again, dominating in the 5th set and winning it 15-5. Citrus would walk away with the 3-2 win and a 2-1 conference record.

Leading the way for the Owls was Nia Nix, the conference leader in kills (275) and kills per set (5.19). Nix recorded a game high, season high, and career high 32 kills in the win, hitting a whopping .415 en route to her best offensive game as an Owl. Nix also added 15 digs to give her the double double. Summer Edington was also instrumental for the Owls offensively, recording 10 kills. Setter Vanessa Warren set a career high in the game, dishing out 47 assists on the day. Libero Aaliyah Robles would not be left out of the mix, she also set her career high in digs with 21.

Overall, Citrus is 5-12 with a 2-1 WSC South conference mark. That puts the Owls tied for 2nd with Canyons and Antelope Valley. The team picks up conference action again Wednesday at home as they take on Antelope Valley. First serve is at 6:00 PM in the gymnasium.
