Owls Wrap Up 2014 Season With Strong Showing at State

Fresno, CA -- The Citrus College Men's and Women's Cross Country wrapped up their 2014 campaigns on Saturday morning when they competed in the 2014 California Community College Athletic Association Cross Country State Championships. The Owls finished strong with the men finishing in 17th place and the women 24th place in Woodward Park.

Freshman Andrew Ballin was the first Owl to cross the line on the men's side. Ballin finished in 63rd place overall and posted a time of 21:34 flat, the 11th fastest time in Citrus College history at the State Championships. Freshman Daniel Hernandez-Cabrera finished 86th overall and just a few seconds behind Ballin with a time of 21:47.4, the 15th fastest time in Citrus History.

After those two it was a sophomore and a pair of freshman. Sophomore Diego Lopez, who was the only returning Owl at the State Championships this weekend, finished in 95th place with a time of 21:56.1, shaving 14 seconds off his time from last season. Freshmen Efren Alcala Jr. and Andres Aparicio were the fourth and fifth Owls to finish the course, with times of 22:08.5 (113th) and 22:17.6 (128th) respectively.

On the women's side freshman Janet Meza-Avila finished in 77th place. Her time of 19:59.9 is the 7th fastest time in Citrus College History at the State Championships. Sophomore Jessica McMillen closed out her two year career with a banner day, finishing in 104th place with a time of 20:28.3, the 11th fastest time in Citrus History.

After that, it was a trio of freshmen who posted the best times on the 5K course. Freshmen Paige Peterson, who came on late in the year for the Owls, finished in 150th place with a time of 21:10.3. Freshman Antonella Curinga battled through injury to finish 155th place with a time of 21:21.7. Nataly Meza-Avila closed out the top five with a 160th place finish and a time of 21:30.2.
