Oxnard, CA -- The Citrus College Women's Cross Country program had a big weekend when they finished in 3rd place at the 2015 Western State Conference Preview. It's the best finish by the Owls in at least 10 years eclipsing the 5th place finishes by last year's team and the 2009 team.

Sophomore Janet Meza-Avila led the charge on Friday at Oxnard College, finishing in 17th place overall and posting  time of 19:59.6. It's the highest finish by an individual women's runner in this event, since Vanessa Esquivel finished in 8th place in 2009. Sophomore Jacqueline Alcala was just a few paces behind in 21st place overall with a time of 20:11.5. Sophomore Lezly Morales was third through the chute with a 27th place finish and time of 20:23.9, while fellow soph and Janet's sister, Nataly Meza-Avila came in 31st place with a time of 20:45.1. Rounding out the scoring runs was sophomore Andrea Flores who just outpaced freshman Brittany Thelen (44th Place | 21:27.6), by finishing in 42nd place overall with a time of 21:17.1.

On the men's side, the Owls didn't fare as well, taking 11th place out of the 11 scoring teams. Sophomore Efren Alcala Jr. was first to break the tape for Citrus with a 54th place overall finish in a time of 22:17.4. Freshman Julian Ramirez was the second Owl in with an 67th place finish and time of 22:38.1. A trio of freshmen rounded out the scoring runs with Azgad Valle (80th | 23:07.5), Adrian Maciel (81st | 23:16.0), and Luis Salinas (89th | 23:40.9) closing things out.

Citrus will get right back at on the course this Friday when they travel to beautiful Santa Barbara for the 2015 Santa Barbara City College Invitational at Leadbetter Beach. The first race is scheduled for a 3:00 PM start.
