Owls Cross Country Season Kicks-Off at Oxnard Invite

Oxnard, CA - The 2016 Citrus College Cross Country season got underway on Friday afternoon at the 2016 Oxnard Invitational hosted by Oxnard College. The Owls were paced by a pair of freshman on the day as freshman Marissa Montoya on the women's side and freshman Alberto Dolores on the men's side.

Montoya paced the women's Owl pack with a time of 21:25.8, finishing in 33rd place. Sophomore Brittany Thelen was hot on her heels finishing in a time of 21:35.2, good for 39th place. Freshmen Marlene Romero (48th Place | 22:27.5) and Ruby Munoz (49th Place | 22:29.6) were the third and fourth Owls across the finish line with Romero just out stepping Munoz by two seconds. The fifth and final scorer for Citrus was freshman Ashley Hernandez who finished 69th with a time of 24:18.2.

On the men's side, Dolores finished in 49th place with a time of 23:24.7. Freshman Watts Waddington was 55th with a time of 23:31.2, while freshman Eric Perez was 64th with a time of 23:50.7. The final two scoring times for the Owls came from sophomore Julian Ramirez (69th Place | 24:06.3) and sophomore Christian Ochoa (86th Place | 25:43.2).

Citrus will resume their 2016 schedule next Friday when they head out to Riverside to participate in the 2016 Lancer Invitational hosted by California Baptist University. The first race will be the women and it's set for a 10:15 AM start.
