Orange, CA – The Citrus College Cross Country program's had their biggest race of the young 2016 season on Friday afternoon when they got to find out how they shookout against the best that Southern California has to offer. It was a mixed bag, as the women found out they are in the mix finishing right smack dab in the middle, while the men found out they still had some work to do.

Freshman Marissa Montoya was the first Owl through the chute, completing the course in a time of 21:21.9 (58th Place). Sophomore Brittney Thelen was seconds behind her with a time of 21:50.4 (79th Place), while freshman Ruby Munoz was steps behind Thelen with a time of 22:07.1 (95th Place). Freshman Marlene Romero kept pace with the middle of the pack with her time of 22:07.1 (116th Place), and freshman McKenna Mobley ran the final scoring race of the afternoon for Citrus, finishing with a time of 24:08.1 (144th Place).

As a team, the Owls finished in 17th place out of the 31 Southern California community colleges competing. The Owls were the 7th WSC school to finish the race, ahead of four other conference foes.

For the men, they didn't fare as well, coming in 28th place out of the 32 teams. Freshman Alberto Dolores had a strong race finishing in a time of 23:29.1 (145th Place). Eric Perez clocked in under 24 minutes with his time of 23:53.7 (177th Place), while Julian Ramirez wasn't that far behind with his official time of 24:11.4 (198th Place). It was two more freshmen who scored for the young Owls as Watts Waddington (24:20.5 | 206th Place) and Jose Mora (26:56.8 | 280th Place) were the next two through the chute.

The Owls will take the week off from competition before taking part in the Western State Conference Preview on Friday September 30th. The women kick things off at 1:00 PM at the Kern County Soccer Park in Bakersfield, CA.
