Citrus Grabs Thrilling Walk-Off Win

Citrus College grabbed a thrilling 8-7 walk-off victory over College of the Canyons to cap its home season Thursday.

The Owls improve to 11-27 overall, 7-13 in Western State Conference action with their third-straight win. The Cougars slip to 21-16 on the year and 12-8 in conference.

Citrus finished with 18 hits in the game with nine Owls grabbing hits, including multi-hit performances from Devon Diaz (2-for-5), Jin Hattori (3-for-5), Chad Green (2-for-5), Connor Green (3-for-4), Jared Gener (2-for-5), and Jason Armendariz (3-for-4).

Trailing 7-4 in the bottom of the ninth, Citrus turned things around. Connor Green led off with a double before Ronnie Wohlert took over running and made his way to third with no outs. Gener doubled to send Wohlert home.

With runners at second and third and no outs, Sean Rooney came up clutch with a base hit through the left to score another run, 7-6. Gener tied the game up before the Cougars grabbed two outs to threaten to end the inning. Diaz turned on a pitch to left but the outstretched Canyons' outfielder couldn't make the catch to allow Rooney to come home for the game-winning run.

Kyle Dixon picked up the win on the mound for Citrus.

The Owls close out the season with the Cougars on Friday, back at College of the Canyons at 2:30 p.m.
