Six Runs in Fifth Gets Owls Past Wildcats

Citrus College snapped a seven-game losing streak Tuesday afternoon with a 9-7 series-opening win over West Los Angeles College. The Owls improve to 14-17 overall and 6-7 in conference, while the Wildcats fall to 7-24 overall and 2-11 in conference. 

The Owls would strike first with a run in the third and another in the fourth taking a 2-0 lead. The Wildcats quickly responded with two runs of their own tying the game 2-2. 

In the fifth the owls would pull away with a six-run inning to take a decisive lead. Jaden St. Cyr would start the inning off with a leadoff single before Nathan Hellein hit a triple scoring the first run. Connor Green would trade an out for an RBI as he grounded out to third base. The Owls batters would continue to put pressure on the Wildcats pitcher as they loaded the bases on a single and back-to-back walks before Jason Armendariz singled, scoring Mario Catalan. Later in the inning with two outs and the bases loaded Sean Rooney would deliver the decisive blow. Rooney would hit a double scoring three runs and give the Owls an 8-2 lead over the Wildcats.

The Owls would add another run in the seventh and manage to hang on as the Wildcats surged late scoring five runs in the final three innings. 

The Owls will be back in action on Thursday afternoon in Glendora for game two of a three game series against West Los Angeles College. First pitch is set for 2:30 p.m.
