Taylor Leads Owls

Taylor Leads Owls
Citrus College claimed a 4-2 victory over Bakersfield College Thursday afternoon to take their second win of the series. The Owls improve to 20-19 overall and 11-9 in conference, while the Renegades fall to 12-25 overall and 9-11 in conference.

Aiden Taylor was excellent on the mound for the Owls, improving his record to 4-3 on the year. Taylor pitched six innings, striking out six batters, and gave up only two runs. Reece Harney, in two innings, had two strikeouts and picked up the save.

The Owls had eleven hits from eight different batters. Nathan Hellein led the Owls offensively, going 2-for-4 from the plate with two RBIs and scored a run. Alex Hernandez and Connor Green each had two hits. Jaden St. Cyr, Mario Catalan, Jordan Sheridan, Jason Armendariz, and Sean Rooney each contributed a hit.

After a scoreless first inning, the Renegades took an early lead on a two-run home run, making the game 2-0.

The Owls remained scoreless until they came alive in the fifth inning. In the fifth inning, Alex Hernandez hit a leadoff single followed by another single from Sean Rooney. A batter later, Jaden St. Cyr hit a single, scoring Hernandez and advancing Rooney to third base. St. Cyr then stole second base before Nathan Hellein hit a two-RBI double to right field, scoring Rooney and St. Cyr. The Owls advanced Hellein to third on a groundout for their first out of the inning. Jordan Sheridan added another run on a sacrifice fly, giving the Owls a 4-2 lead.

That would be it as Aiden Taylor and Reece Harney kept the Renegades' batters in check, not allowing another run on the day.

The Owls will be back in action tomorrow as they travel to Bakersfield College looking to complete the sweep. The first pitch is set for 2:30 p.m.
