21 Owls On All-Conference List

Glendora, CA -- The 2013 National Division Central Conference All-Conference team was announced late Monday afternoon. The Owls had 21 players dot the list, the most in at least the last eight years.

Of the 21 total athletes on the list, six were named 1st team All-Central Conference. Freshman quarterback Larry Cutbirth highlighted the list. Cutbirth completed 59.6% of his passes for 2,223 yards and 27 touchdowns. More impressively, Cutbirth was picked off just four times. With one game still to go in 2013, Cutbirth already owns the program records for most touchdowns in a season and passing efficiency in a season 156.26. Cutbirth also set the record for the most touchdowns thrown in a single game against Riverside City College (6), and is just 120 yards shy of breaking the single season passing yards mark with Saturday's Bowl Game to go.

The rest of the 1st team selections came from the Owls' defense. Sophomore defensive lineman Trenton Washington, who was an Honorable Mention honoree last season, wreaked havoc on opposing offensive lines with 4.5 tackles for a loss, 23 total tackles, and six quarterback hurries. Sophomore defensive end Kenyatta Johnson, also an Honorable Mention honoree last year, also was on the 1st team with a team leading 10 sacks, 12.5 tackles for a loss, two forced fumbles, a pair of recoveries, three tipped passes at the line and 10 quarterback hurries.

Sophomore linebacker Maurice Dupleasis, who was a 2nd team selection last year, also earned 1st team honors. Dupleasis was third in the Central Conference with a team leading 80 tackles. Dupleasis also added 3.5 sacks, 10.5 tackles for a loss, a forced fumble, two fumble recoveries, four pass break-ups, and eight quarterback hurries.

The final two 1st team selections were sophomore defensive back Braxton Brown and freshman defensive back Charles Flowers. Brown, who made Honorable Mention last season, totaled 37 tackles, two sacks, 4.5 tackles for a loss, a forced fumble, three picks, and a Central Conference leading 13 pass break-ups. Flowers meanwhile had 49 tackles, a sack, a tackle for a loss, a forced fumble, five pass break-ups, and a team high five, and a team high five interceptions.

Four Owls also earned 2nd team All-Central Conference honors. Sophomore wide receiver Scott Calles, who hauled in a team leading 48 receptions for a team high 673 yards, and three touchdowns, was the leading offensive selection. Calles is just four receptions away from breaking the Citrus College record for most receptions in a career. Freshman running back Emmanuel Pooler also got a 2nd team nod. Pooler carried the ball 91 times for 649 yards and six touchdowns. Pooler averaged 7.1 yards per carry this past season.

Sophomore offensive lineman Blake Luevano was also named a 2nd team selection. Luevano played in and started all 10 games for the Owls this past year. The final 2nd team honoree was sophomore defensive back Herman Akins. Akins recorded 56 tackles, a sack, 1.5 tackles for a loss, a fumble recovery, a pick, and five pass break-ups on the year.

In addition to the 10 first and second teamers, 11 additional Owls were named All-Central Conference Honorable Mention honorees.

On the offensive side of the ball, freshman wide receiver Brayton Newton (8 TD's, 298 yards), freshman wide receiver Raphael Barr (6 TD's, 375 yards), freshman offensive lineman Ryan Cassidy, and sophomore offensive lineman Philip Romano.

On the defensive side of the ball, it was freshman defensive lineman Michael Leater (15 tackles, 3 tackles for a loss), freshman outside linebacker Terrance Timms II-Manderville (22 tackles, 2 interceptions), freshman defensive lineman Williard "Trent" Williams (16 tackles, 2 tackles for a loss), and sophomore linebacker Jose Nunez (60 tackles, 9.5 tackles for a loss).

On special teams, freshman punter Dillon Barnes earned Honorable Mention honors after posting an average of 38.2 yards per kick, and landing 10 kicks inside the 20 yard line. Freshman Joseph Henderson (236 kick return yards) and sophomore Donovan Holmes (255 yards rushing, 270 yards receiving, 2 TD's) also were named Honorable Mention honorees as All-Purpose selections.
