Redondo Beach, CA — After another close loss last week at Golden West College, the Citrus College Football team got back on track on Saturday evening with a road win at El Camino College. The Owls out gained the Warriors by nearly 100 yards, and dominated the time of possession in a 28-21 victory.

The Citrus defense had arguably their best outing of the 2014 season, but it was El Camino who struck first. After stuffing the Warriors in their first drive, El Camino struck pay dirt on their second, taking a 7-0 lead with seven minutes to go in the first.

The Owls would answer early in the second quarter thanks to some good field position provided via a bad snap on an El Camino punt. With only 11 yards to go, a couple of carries and a pass completion would lead to a one yard touchdown run by sophomore quarterback Larry Cutbirth that made it seven all.

The Warriors would answer right back on their next drive, going 61 yards in nine plays to take a 14-7 lead. That would be it until very late in the game though, as the Owls defense put the clamps on the El Camino offense. Citrus' next drive saw the Owls march 75 yards in 17 plays, a drive crapped off by a touchdown pass from Cutbirth to freshman Steven Garcia, locking the game up at 14-14, where it would stay into the half.

Citrus picked up right where they left off the first half in the second. The Owls used another long drive, this one 10 plays over 65 yards, to take their first lead of the game 21-14 after sophomore DJ Gordon carried the ball in from three yards away. Citrus would score again two drives later when Cutbirth used another short field to make it 28-14 after finding sophomore Demetre Smith from 12 yards out and just 26 second left in the third quarter.

In the fourth, the two schools traded drives that went nowhere. The Warriors would score late in the half when they used a short field to make it 28-21 with 1:22 to go. El Camino would convert an onside kick on the ensuing kick-off, but the Owls defense came up big again, forcing another four and out sealing the game for Citrus.

Cutbirth finished the game 22 of 35 for 198 yards and a pair of scores. Smith was the biggest recipient of Cutbirth's passes catching four passes for 72 yards and the score. On defense, sophomore Terrance Manderville had a game high eight tackles, four tackles for a loss, and a sack.

With the win, Citrus improves 2-2 on the year. The Owls will be back home on Saturday when they host Los Angeles Harbor College (0-4) at 1:00 PM.
