Citrus Drops Season Opener

No. 10-ranked Citrus College battled in its season debut Thursday evening but came up short in a 65-60 loss to Mt. San Antonio College.

The Owls begin the year in a 0-1 hole, while the Mounties start the season 1-0 overall.

JJ Mitchell led the Owls with 15 points on 5-of-11 shooting and added 11 rebounds in his collegiate debut. Rudy Suarez (4-for-14) and EJ Bryson (5-for-12) each added 11 points, while Brandon Suber chipped in eight points (3-for-9) and 11 boards.

The Owls held the Mounties to a 39.4 percent shooting from the floor, including 18.8 percent from the perimeter, but couldn't make shots fall on their end of the court, finishing with a 30.7 shooting percentage, including 16.7 percent from distance.

Citrus looks to bounce back on the road, heading to MiraCosta College on Tuesday, Nov. 7, at 6 p.m.
