Ponce Scores Twice in Second-Straight Owl Win

Ponce Scores Twice in Second-Straight Owl Win

In a high-scoring, physical game, Citrus College came out on top with a 4-2 victory over Allan Hancock College Friday afternoon.

The Owls improve to 4-2-1 on the year with their second-straight win, while the Bulldogs slip to 3-6-0 overall.

Also, for the second-straight game, Jacob Ponce scored two goals in the victory, including the eventual game-winner. Sammy Ghandour and Isaac Ochoa also scored for the Owls.

Citrus got on the board quickly and scored two goals in the first 10 minutes of action. Ghandour struck first, converting a penalty kick in the eighth minute before Ochoa found the back of the net less than 90 seconds later.

Ponce upped the Owls' lead to 3-0 in the 24th minute, tucking in an assist from Ghandour, but the Bulldogs managed to cut the margin to just one goal at halftime with a goal in the 36th minute and a PK of their own in the 42nd minute.

Citrus looked like it might get some insurance in the 49th minute, but Ponce's shot was just wide and ricocheted off the post. It bounced around before Ochoa fired off another shot, but it was blocked to keep the score at 3-2.

The Owls kept pushing and Ponce broke through once again in the 86th minute to cap the scoring and secure the 4-2 victory for the visitors.

Citrus is back on the road next week, taking on Chaffey College on Tuesday at 2 p.m., before returning home for a Friday afternoon match against Victor Valley College.
