Citrus College picked up a 20-8 victory over El Camino Wednesday night, improving to 4-0 on the young season. It marks the Owls' best start to the season in at least 15 years.

Ian Tauer led the Owls with seven goals – which ranks ninth-most on the Citrus College single-game scoring list – and added two assists. Matty Roebuck followed with four goals and had five assists on the night, while Julian Nicholas and Breck Weiny each rattled in three goals. Ethan Bustamante, Peter Herrera and Andres Hernandez also got in on the scoring action for the Owls.

Defensively, Matteo Velasquez picked up the win with four saves on the night, while Eric Ramirez added five saves in the cage for Citrus.

The Owls came out blazing and scored six goals in the opening period, including one in the first possession of the night. Less than 20 seconds into the game, Herrera drove in a pass from Weiny to put Citrus on the board early.

Citrus kept pressing and scored 30 seconds later, this time with Weiny finding Roebuck on the attack. Roebuck struck again about halfway through the period, upping the Owls' lead to 3-0. Tauer scored twice and Weiny chipped in a goal as well before the first quarter ended to increase Citrus' lead to 6-0.

The Owls kept rolling and doubled their lead in the second off goals from Nicholas, Roebuck, Tauer (two) and Weiny (two), before the Warriors could breakthrough. El Camino scored just before halftime on a power play, putting the score at 12-1 in favor of the home team at halftime.

Coming out of the break, Tauer scored back-to-back goals for the Owls, both off feeds from Thomas Woolrich. Roebuck rattled in another one to help Citrus create some more distance, despite the Warriors capitalizing four times in the third to cut the score to 15-5.

The Owls put the nail in the coffin in the fourth, outscoring the Warriors 5-3 to seal the 20-8 blowout victory.

Citrus continues its homestand, looking to carry momentum into next week as it hosts CalTech on Wednesday at 4:00 p.m.
