Tauer Breaks 40-Year-Old Scoring Record as Owls Grab Two Wins

Ian Tauer broke the Citrus College program record for most goals in a game Saturday, helping the Owls grab a 21-9 victory over Rio Hondo at the Mt. SAC Tournament. The Owls followed with an 18-6 win over El Camino College to wrap up the tournament.

Tauer scored an impressive 13 goals against the Roadrunners, breaking a 40-year-old program record set by Pat Bishop in 1971. Tauer also had an assist to finish the game with 14 points.

Citrus also saw goals from Matty Roebuck (four), Breck Weiny (three), and Cole Jerry (two) in the victory.

After a close first period where the Owls and Roadrunners were locked at 2-2, Citrus jumped out to a 9-4 lead with seven goals in the second. Tauer scored three of his goals in the period, with Jerry and Roebuck also finding the back of the cage.

Tauer's final goal of the game came with just over a minute left in the fourth to seal the 21-9 victory for the Owls.

Citrus carried momentum into the nightcap with the Warriors and posted two shutout periods to grab a significant lead heading into the final period.

With a 4-3 lead in the first, the Owls scored 11 unanswered goals to increase their lead to 15-3 and all but put the game out of reach. Thomas Woolrich, Weiny, Roebuck, Tauer, Julian Nicholas, and Andres Hernandez all had goals in the spurt.

The Owls converted three of their five power plays in the win and boasted a .486 shot parentage.

Six different Owls scored in the game against the Warriors, led by Nicholas' five goals. Roebuck added another four and Tauer and Hernandez each scored a hat trick. Weiny and Woolrich also scored for Citrus.

With the pair of wins, Citrus moves to 7-0 on the year as it heads to Orange Coast College on Wednesday at 4:00 p.m.
