Citrus Gets Back to Winning

Citrus College hosted the Citrus Mini Tournament Friday and split on the day. After falling 16-14 to Cypress College in the opener, the Fighting Owls snapped their five-game losing streak with a 19-6 victory over Fullerton College.

Ian Tauer led the Owls with five goals and two assists against Cypress, while Matty Roebuck finished with three goals and four assists. Jullian Nichols (two goals), Abram Villegas (two goals), Andres Hernandez, and Peter Herrera also scored in the opener.

Cypress scored four goals in each of the four periods in the opener to secure the win.

Citrus responded in a big way, scoring nine goals in the first quarter of the nightcap to take a commanding 9-1 lead.

Nichols got the ball rolling with a goal just 16 seconds into the game. It sparked three-straight goals for the Owls before Fullerton could get on the board.

Nichols capitalized again halfway through the quarter on a power play before a slew of goals came pouring in for Citrus to put the Owls in front, 9-1.

Tauer and Roebuck kept the scoring spree going for the Owls in the second, making it nine-straight goals for Citrus. It helped the Owls build a 14-3 lead at halftime.

Fullerton managed to limit Citrus to just three goals in the third and two goals in the fourth, but the damage was done as Citrus swam away with the 19-6 victory.

Tauer finished with eight goals and two assists, followed by Roebuck's four goals and six assists. Hernandez had three goals and two assists, while Villegas scored and had two assists. Anthony Manzano also scored for Citrus.

The Owls now stand 10-6 overall heading to the Cuesta Mini on Saturday.
