Owls Split at Cuesta Mini

Citrus College grabbed a split at the Cuesta Mini over the weekend. The Owls dropped a 20-14 loss to host Cuesta College but bounced back with a 15-12 victory over Santa Monica Community College.

The Owls move to 11-7 on the year after the tournament.

Ian Tauer led the Owls with 10 goals on the day, scoring five in each contest. Jullian Nichols followed with three goals in each game to finish with six on the day, along with eight assists, while Matty Roebuck had five goals in the pair of games.

Matteo Velasquez made 13 saves and had two assists in the opener. Jacob Perez made nine saves in the Owls' nightcap win.

In the late game, Citrus found itself trailing 2-1 after the first quarter. The Owls then outscored the Corsairs 7-3 in the second to take the lead and never look back.

After Santa Monica scored two goals to start the frame, Nichols rattled in a shot off a Roebuck assist to spark a 7-1 run. Tauer, Abram Villegas (one goal, two assists), Thomas Woolrich, and Roebuck (three goals, three assists) in the scoring spree.

The Corsairs tried to launch a comeback but a goal from Andres Hernandez sealed the 15-12 victory for the Owls.

Citrus College is back in action Wednesday, hosting LA Valley at 3:00 p.m.
