Monarchs Hold Off Owls

Citrus College dropped a tight 15-13 battle to LA Valley Wednesday afternoon.

The Owls slip to 11-7 overall and 1-2 in the Western State Conference. The Monarchs improve to 5-6, 0-1.

LA Valley took a 4-1 lead after the first period, sneaking in a goal in the final second of the quarter to put the Owls on their heels.

Determined to fight back, Ian Tauer scored to start the second before back-to-back goals from Breck Weiny and Matty Roebuck put Citrus within reach, 5-4.

The Monarchs created some distance in the third, however, taking a six-point lead, 11-5, halfway through the period. Weiny sparked a ferocious comeback attempt where the Owls scored four-straight goals to get back in the game. Jullian Nichols had two goals in the scoring spree, with Roebuck also rattling in a goal.

Despite less than a minute remaining on the clock, the Monarchs scored two goals before time expired to increase their lead back to four, 13-9.

Once again, the Owls tried to battle back and pulled within two, 14-12, off a goal from Abram Villegas and two from Tauer, but that was as close as Citrus would pull as it dropped the game 15-13.

The Owls head to the Riverside City College Mini on Friday.
