Citrus Splits at RCC Mini

Citrus Splits at RCC Mini

Citrus College grabbed a split at the Riverside City College Mini Friday, falling to host RCC but picking up a 17-5 victory over Palomar College.

The Owls move to 12-9 on the year with the results.

Jullian Nichols scored three goals in the opener against the Tigers. Matty Roebuck and Ian Tauer each had two goals, while Andres Hernandez and Breck Weiny also scored for the Owls.

In the nightcap, both teams scored two goals to sit tied at 2-2 after the first eight minutes.

Citrus exploded offensively in the second, however, jumping out to an 8-4 lead at halftime. Cole Jerry started the frame with a goal a minute into the quarter before Abram Villegas struck 30 seconds later. Tauer followed with back-to-back goals just 36 seconds apart from each other.

Tauer built on the Owls' 8-4 halftime lead with a goal 20 seconds into the third, but Palomar responded with a goal to pull within four again, 9-5.

Roebuck sparked a five-goal scoring spree to all but seal the victory. Citrus then added three goals in the fourth to take the game 17-5.

The Owls head to the Día de los Muertos Tournament, hosted by Southwestern College, on Friday and Saturday.
