Men's Water Polo Win Five in Merced

The Citrus College Men's Water Polo team started their 2024 season off strong by going undefeated at the Merced North vs. South Tournament over Labor Day Weekend. 

The Owls began their weekend in a close morning game against San Joaquin Delta, winning 15-14. Trace Faskell led the way with six goals followed by Killian Pressley who scored three goals and earned five drawn exclusions. Goalies Brian Delama and George Mikhail each had six saves to help Citrus get their first win of the season. 

Game two came against Sierra College where the Owls faced some adversity going down by four goals in the first quarter. Led by Killian Pressley, Liam Ross, and trace Faskell, all who had two goals in the game, the Owls went back and forth with the Wolverines. A dominant fourth quarter where the Owls scored four unanswered goals secured them their second win of the day with a final score of 9-5. 

The last game of the Friday three-game slate came against the host team, Merced College. The Owls were in a great rhythm by the evening and after trading goals with the Blue Devils they took a commanding lead to win the game 21-11. The impressive performance was led by Tommy Gibson who racked up six goals, four assists and added one field block. Adam Herald chipped in two goals, five assists and three steals to seal the third win of the day for the Owls. 

The winning ways continued Saturday as Citrus took on Diablo Valley. The Owls secured a 21-10 win moving them to 4-0 on the season with the help of Devon Dow and Tommy Gibson who each scored four goals. Killian Pressley, Liam Ross, and Trace Faskell all had three goals while Adam Herlad racked up five assists and Adeeb Lakkees added four assists. 

The Owls wrapped up a memorable weekend with a tough test against Modesto where the owls held on to win 15-14. In a close battle, Citrus saw Liam Ross and Killian Pressley lead the way, each scoring four goals. Sophomore goalie Brian Delama had seven saves to support the Owls in securing their fifth win of the weekend, improving them to 5-0 on the season. 

Citrus College will look to continue their undefeated season when they head to the Cypress College tournament this weekend with two games on both Friday, September 6th and Saturday, September 7th.
