Comets Break Owls Hearts

Glendora, CA -- Through three games, the Citrus College softball team had a pair of mercy rule wins and a close late inning loss on its resume. For the first time this year, the Owls had the tables turned on them, as visiting Palomar College broke the Owls' hearts on Valentines Day by mercying them 11-3 in six innings.

It was a rocky start for Citrus as they gave up five runs in the top of the second inning. Freshman Kawehi Ephan tried to get Citrus back on track in the bottom of the inning with her fifth home run of the year a solo shot to left field, and for a time it worked. In the bottom of the third, sophomore Bre Lockett launched her first homer of the year a two run bomb to left-center field that cut their deficit to two runs.

That was all the offense Citrus mustered the rest of the way though, as the Owls were held without a hit over the final three innings. With the offense struggling, the Comets pounced scoring four runs in the top of the fourth, and a run in each of the fifth and sixth innings to reach the requisite eight run cushion needed to finish the game early.

With the loss, Citrus falls to 2-2 on the year. After playing their first four games of the year at home, the Owls will hit the road for three games over the next week and a half. That starts on Tuesday, when Citrus travels to El Cajon to take on Grossmont College. First pitch is set for 3:00 PM.
