Glendora, CA -- The Citrus College softball team committed four errors and lost out on a chance to score big upset of State #12 College of the Desert. Instead the roadrunners took advantage of the Owls miscues and scored a 8-4 win for themselves.

Citrus scored the game's first run in the bottom of the first inning thanks to an RBI single through the left side of the field from sophomore Carissa Bender. College of the Desert got on the board in the top of the next inning, but did so only thanks to a passed ball and wild pitch that moved a runner from second all the way to home.

The Roadrunners used the momentum from the top of the second inning to score two more runs in the top of the third to go up 3-1. The Owls tried to match it in the bottom of the inning, but the Owls got caught up on the base paths getting thrown out trying to go first to third. Citrus ran into the same problem again in the bottom of the fourth when they were hosed at home plate trying to score from second base.

Desert tacked on a score in the top of the fifth, and then two more in the sixth and two more in the seventh. The four runs scored between the sixth and seventh innings were all unearned.

Citrus did briefly tie the game up in the fifth inning thanks to an RBI single from sophomore Rebecca Ireland, a bases loaded RBI walk from sophomore Angela Aguinaga, and a sacrifice fly to center field from freshman Raeleen Tellez, but that was all the offense they mustered over the final three innings, as they went down in order in the sixth and seventh frames.

In the loss, freshman Sara Moore led the way at the plate going 2 for 3 with a score. Sophmore Bre Lockett was 2 for 4, while Bender finished 2 for 2.

With the loss, Citrus falls to 4-3 on the year. The Owls will be back out on the field on Tuesday when they take on another tough foe when they host State #15 Santa Ana College. First pitch is set for 2:30 PM.
