Santa Clarita, CA -- The Citrus College Softball team was doubled up on Thursday afternoon in an important early conference season match-up at State #7 College of the Canyons. The Owls had early leads in both contests, but fell in each to their WSC Blue Division foe 12-5 and 9-1.

In game one the two teams traded a pair of scores in the first inning, with the Owls running out to a 5-2 lead in the top half of the second inning after a three run home run from freshman Kawehi Ephan. Citrus would hang on to that lead for an inning and a half, until the Cougars exploded for seven runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. Canyons added two more in the fifth, and the Owls were shut down the rest of the way as they fell by seven.

In the second game, it was a similar arc. The Owls scored first, using a sacrifice fly from Ephan to go up 1-0 after one. Citrus led until Canyons exploded for five runs in the bottom of the third. The Cougars scored once more in the fifth, and then ended the game in the sixth with three more scores as the Owls were shut down over the final five innings.

With the two losses, Citrus falls to 10-9 overall and 4-3 in WSC Blue play. The Owls will take the weekend off before resuming conference play against a tough Glendale squad on Tuesday in Glendale. First pitch is set for 2:30 PM.
