Glendora, CA -- After giving up a run in the top half of the first inning of their game with East Los Angeles College on Friday afternoon, the Citrus College Softball team answered with a vengeance. The Owls came back with 12 runs in the bottom of the first and never looked back on their way to a 14-2 five inning win over the visiting Huskies.

After the aforementioned run in the top half of the first, freshman Sara Moore got things rocking with a RBI single to left field to tie the game up at one score each. Freshman Kawehi Ephan followed that up with a double to the gap in left-center that drove in another run and the Owls were off and running.

Sophomore Veronica Ramirez came up next and drove in another run and reached base thanks to an error by East LA. Before freshman Arianna Sanchez could drive in a run in the next AB, Ephan was scoring thanks to a wild pitch. A few pitches later Sanchez, would drive in Ramirez with a single to left field. A few at bats later, sophomore Jessica Gonzalez drove in a run with an RBI walk, a feat replicated in the next at bat by sophomore Angela Aguinaga.

Moore then drove in her second run of the inning with another single that plated an Owl. With the bases now loaded, Ephan strode to the plate once again, and this time launched a grand slam to put the Owls up 12-1.

With the blip in the first and a solo home run given up to the first batter of the top of the second inning behind her, Sanchez chipped away at the Husky lineup over the next four innings. After those first two runs, Sanchez allowed just two hits and a walk, while striking out a batter, as she improved to 8-4 in the circle this season.

Citrus did score twice more in the game, both in the bottom of the third. Freshman Andrea "Cookie" Perez drove in a run with a double to left field. Sophomore Rebecca Ireland would score a few seconds later, on another wild pitch by the Huskies that made it 14-2 Citrus.

With the win, Citrus improves to 14-9 on the year. The Owls will now hit the road for three straight games, and six of their next seven. That stretch starts on Monday when they head South to Grossmont College in El Cajon to take on the Griffins at 3:00 PM.
