Glendora, CA -- The Citrus College Softball team got a total team effort when they needed it on Tuesday afternoon when they defeated visiting Los Angeles Valley College 8-0 in five innings. Seven Owls recorded hits, and freshman Arianna Sanchez faced the minimum possible amount of batters in the game.

The Owls started the game off on the right foot, posting a four spot in the first inning. Freshman Sara Moore stayed hot with an RBI single back up the middle to make it 1-0. Four at bats later, sophomore Katherine Cunningham drove in two more with a single to right-center, and freshman Alyssa Lozano drove in the final run one at bat later with a single to center field.

Citrus kept it rolling in the second, inning as Moore made it 7-0 thanks to a three run home run to right-center field. The Owls' eighth and final run came in the top of the fourth, when freshman Kawehi Ephan hit a sacrifice fly to left scoring sophomore Angela Aguinaga and giving Citrus enough runs for a mercy rule win.

The offense left no doubt in the bottom half of the innings, and Sanchez took care of her end of the bargain in the top half. Sanchez walked none and gave up just one single hit, a one out bloop to right in the top of the second. That was erased though in the next at bat, as the Valley batter lined out to left field and the runner on first was thrown out after not tagging up.

With the win, Citrus improves to 17-10 overall and 9-3 in WSC Blue Division play. The Owls have another big day coming up on Thursday when they travel to Los Angeles Mission College for a conference double-header. Game one is set for a 1:00 PM start in Sylmar.
