Glendora, CA -- After a tough 14-12 loss to State #15 College of the Canyons, the Owls got right back in the saddle on Wednesday afternoon when they took on a talented and strong Long Beach City College squad. The Owls rebounded nicely picking up an important 7-3 non-conference win over the Vikings.

The Owls scored right off the bat, getting an RBI single from sophomore Jessica Gonzalez that scored freshman Kawehi Ephan to make it 1-0. Long Beach would respond with a three spot in the top of the second, but freshman Arianna Sanchez would come into the game in the third and batten down the hatches in the circle while the offense piled it on.

Citrus' big inning would come in the bottom of the third. Gonzalez rallied the troops with another RBI single to make it 2-3. Freshman Raeleen Tellez would follow that up a few at bats later with a two RBI single up the middle that put the Owls back on top 4-3.

Sophomore Katherine Cunningham kept it going with an RBI single through the left side. Freshman Alyssa Lozano capped off the inning with an RBI single to right-center that made it 6-3.

With a comfortable lead at her back Samchez went to work. Sanchez entered the game with the Owls in a hole, but did her best to return the favor to the Vikings. Sanchez surrendered just three hits and a walk, while shutting out Long Beach over the final five innings, striking out a trio of batters in the process.

In the sixth, Cunningham gave the Owls even more room to breathe with another RBI single, this one to right. In the end Cunningham finished 2 for 4 with her pair of RBI's. Tellez also drove in a pair while going 3 for 4, as did Gonzalez who was 2 for 4 at the dish.

With the win, Citrus improves to 20-12 overall. The Owls will be back at home yet again tomorrow when they host Glendale College in a WSC Blue Division double header. First pitch in game one is set for 1:00 PM.
