Ephan Named Player of the Year; Seven Other Owls Named All-WSC

Glendora, CA -- The Citrus College Softball program got its fifth ever Conference Player of the Year over weekend when freshman phenom Kawehi Ephan was named the Western State Conference South Division Player of the Year. In addition, Ephan picked up California Community College Athletic Association All-State honors, while seven other Owls were named to the All-WSC South team.

In her first year with the Owls, Ephan obliterated nearly every offensive record in program history. Ephan batted .562, drove in 54 RBI's, blasted 18 home runs, posted a .695 on-base percentage and led the State in slugging with a 1.425 slugging percentage. All those are new program records for the Owls. The slugging percentage led the entire CCCAA by nearly .400 points and broke the State record by almost .300 points.

Along with Ephan, three Owls were named All-WSC South 1st team selections. Sophomore Angela Aguinaga picked up her second straight nod after earning the same honors as a freshman in 2012. In 2013, Aguinaga batted .360 with seven stolen bases, 12 RBI's, and 29 runs scored.

Freshmen Sara Moore and Arianna Sanchez also both grabbed 1st team honors. Moore, was second on the team in batting average (.412), home runs (5), and RBI's (38). Sanchez meanwhile was Citrus' go to starter in the circle. Sanchez made 29 appearances, including 24 starts, posting a 15-7 record, 3.48 ERA, and 78 K's. 

Earning a second teams nominations were sophomore's Katherine Cunningham and Jessica Gonzalez. Cunningham batted just .233 but posted an impressive .423 on-base percentage drawing 19 walks, the second best mark on the team. Cunnnigham scored 29 runs for the Owls, and drove in 12. Goznalez meanwhile appeared in 27 games for Citrus all at the short stop position. Gonzalez batted .373 with 29 RBI's, 29 runs scored, three doubles, and four home runs. Gonzalez posted a .446 on-base percentage and slugged .573.

Rounding out the post-season superlatives were sophomore Bre Lockett and freshman Raeleen Tellez. Lockett batted .341 with a team high eight stolen bases. Lockett also scored 33 runs, and drove in 21 one, while belting four home runs, five doubles, and a pair of triples. Tellez meanwhile came on strong for the Owls down the stretch. Tellez hit .304 overall with 9 runs and 10 RBI's.

The Owls' season is not over yet, as they take part in the CCCAA post-season this weekend. Citrus travels to Cypress to take on the Chargers for a best two games out of three series beginning this Saturday at 2:00 PM.
