Softball Adds Two More to Matriculation List

Glendora, CA -- The Citrus Softball team is proud to announce that two more sophomores from the 2013 squad will be matriculating this fall. Angela Aguinaga and Rebecca Ireland will be attending and playing for the University of Hawaii at Hilo and the University of La Verne respectively, bringing Citrus Softball's matriculation total in 2013 to seven.

Aguinaga was a two time 1st team All-WSC Blue Division selection during her Citrus career. As a freshman Aguinaga was also named an NFCA All-American. During her sophomore campaign Aguinaga batted .362, stoked a team best eight bases, while driving in 13 RBI's and scoring 33 runs. She will be one of two Owls playing for the Vulcans in 2014.

"I chose Hawaii Hilo because I felt a connection with the program. There is a family feel within the team, and I love that about the program. Academically they provide my major and the coaches made me feel like I can learn so much more and grow into an even better player," Aguinaga said. "Citrus has helped me grow into a mature individual and leader, in the classroom and on the field. Having a great group of girls around me made everything so much easier, and gave me the best experience I could have to start my collegiate career."

Ireland appeared in 74 games over two seasons for the Owls, many behind the dish. As a sophomore Ireland drove in nine runs, scored 17 more, and posted an on-base percentage 100 points her than her batting average.

"I wanted to stay close to home and not be far from my family. La Verne is providing me that opportunity," Ireland said. "Citrus has given me a chance to get ready academically for the university level."

"The softball staff and I are excited for the opportunities that lie ahead for Angie and Becky," said Citrus College Head Softball Coach Jackie Boxley. "We are looking forward to following their continued success at the next level."
