Glendora, CA -- The Citrus College Softball team had their 2014 home opener on Friday afternoon, when they played host to Grossmont College. The Owls overcame three errors and an early deficit to post a 4-3 victory.

Citrus got into trouble early on Friday when they gave up a run in the top of the second. The Griffins scored again in the top of the third, this time via an Owl error. Down 2-0, the Citrus bats missed chances through the first two innings, but made the most of it in the bottom of the third.

With two outs, sophomore Sara Moore got things going with an 2-2 pitch she smoked to center field for an RBI single. Freshman Miranda Gil followed that right back up with a two RBI double to right-center that made it 3-2 Citrus.

In the bottom of the fourth, Citrus added another run to go up 4-2. The run came thanks to a Grossmont error that scored freshman Raven Preseau from second base.

In the circle, sophomore Arianna Sanchez earned the win. Sanchez pitched four innings, giving up three hits and a walk, while striking out five. Sanchez was also responsible for the three runs by the Griffins, but only two were earned. After giving up a walk to lead off the fifth, Sanchez gave way to Gil who got the job done. Gil pitched all three final innings, giving up two hits, surrendering no walks, and striking out three batters on her way to a save.

With the win, Citrus improves to 2-0 on the young year. The Owls will be back at home on Wednesday when they host Rio Hondo College at 2:30 PM.
