Fullerton, CA -- The Citrus College softball team dropped their first contest of the 2014 season on Thursday afternoon at Fullerton College. The Owls lost what was essentially a shootout 8-11 when the game was called in the sixth inning due to darkness.

The two teams started to trade blows from nearly the get go. The Hornets scored a trio of runs in the bottom of the first, but the Owls didn't strike until the top of the third, thanks to an RBI single from sophomore Sara Moore. Fullerton came right back in the bottom half of the inning to extend their lead 5-1, but Citrus came right back in the top of the fourth when sophomore Alyssa Lozano notched an RBI single to make it 5-2.

Still the Hornets made it 6-2 in the bottom of the fourth, only to watch the Owls tie it up in the top of the fifth. Freshmen Miranda Gil, Raven Preseau, Bobbi Stalnaker, and Lozano all drove in runs to make it six all. The Owls briefly took the lead in the top of the sixth, thanks to an RBI triple from Gil and a run scored by Gil a few moments later to make it 8-6. Unfortunately, the Owls couldn't hold off the Hornets in the bottom of the sixth, as Fullerton came right back with five more runs.

With the loss, Citrus falls to 3-1 on the year. The Owls will be back at home on Tuesday when they play host Moorpark College in a double header starting at 2:00 PM.
