Glendora, CA -- The Citrus College Softball team, ranked #9 in Southern California, dispensed some mercy on visiting Moorpark College with a 14-6 and 13-0 victories over the Raiders, both in five innings.

In game one, the two teams traded blows until the Owls pulled away late. Sophomore Sara Moore got things going with lead-off solo home run in the bottom of the first. Moorpark came right back and tied it up in the top of the second, but Moore and sophomore Arianna Sanchez hit back to RBI singles to make it 3-1 in favor of Citrus.

Moorpark came back in the next inning and cut the Owl lead back to a single run, but Citrus busted the game wide open in the bottom of the third. Freshman Haylie Roach, Moore, Sanchez, and freshman Raven Preseau all had RBI singles in the inning, pushing the Owls back on top 10-3. Citrus scored twice more in the bottom of the fourth, and had a chance to end the game in the top of the fifth, but a pair errors by the Owls extended Moorpark's life and sent the game into the bottom half of the inning.

In the bottom half of the inning, it was patience that paid off for the Owls as a pair of walks, a RBI fielder's choice off the bat of sophomore Alyssa Lozano, and a score on a wild pitch for Lozano a few at bat's later ended the game early.

In the second game, Citrus continued it's run. Freshman Bobbi Stalnaker drove in the games first run with an RBI groundout in the bottom of the first. The game though quickly got out of hand in the bottom of the second, when Citrus 12 total runs. Nearly every Owl batter got in on the action, as Citrus took a commanding lead.

As it turned out, Citrus really only needed the one run, as freshman Miranda Gil had her best outing in the circle this season. Gil gave up just one hit, walked no one, and struck out four batters, as she got the five inning shutout.

With the two wins, Citrus improves to 5-1 on the year. The Owls will hit the road this weekend with a trip up the central coast of California. Citrus will play a total of three games starting with a double-header at Cuestsa College on Friday, with game one's first pitch set for 2:00 PM.
