Sylmar, CA -- The Citrus College Softball program opened up their 2014 Western State Conference Blue Division slate with a win over host Los Angeles Mission College. The Owls recorded six hits, and struck out just twice en route to a 6-1 victory over the Eagles.

Citrus opened things up with a pair of runs in the top of the second inning. The Owls saw their lead cut in half in the bottom of the third, but Citrus came right back in the top of the fourth to make it 3-1. The Owls would score three more insurance runs in the top of the seventh, and hung on for the win.

Freshman Miranda Gil was solid in relief for the Owls, giving up just one hit and one walk, while striking out eight batters in 3.2 innings of work. At the plate, freshman Erinn Jaramillo was 2 for 4 with a run and an RBI, while sophomore Victoria Baltazar was 2 for 3 with a pair of RBI's.

With the win, Citrus improves to 8-4 on the year and 1-0 in WSC Blue play. Citrus will on the road again on Tuesday when they head North to take on Bakersfield College in a double-header that begins at 2:30 PM.
