Softball Splits at Bakersfield

Bakersfield, CA -- The Citrus College Softball made the long trek up the 99 Freeway on Tuesday to take on Bakersfield College in Western State Conference Blue Division double-header. The Owls headed back home with a split, losing the first game on a walk-off in the bottom of the seventh, before roaring back with a six inning mercy rule win in game two.

The first contests, proved to be rough for the Owls as fell in an early 5-0 hole. Citrus slowly chipped away at the lead cutting it to one after the top of the fourth, but the Renegades pushed it back to three after the bottom half of the inning. Citrus get hacking away at the deficit, eventually going ahead 9-8 in the top of the seventh, but an error in the bottom half of the inning kept Bakersfield alive. The Renegades took advantage scoring two, to grab a 10-9 win.

In the loss, freshman Miranda Gil was 3 for 4 with an RBI and a pair of runs scored. Freshman Raven Preseau was 2 for 4 with two RBI's. Freshman Valerie Velasquez had her best game of the year, going 2 for 3 with a pair of runs scored and two RBI's.

In the second game, Citrus again got down early as Bakersfield scored a run in the bottom of the first. The Owls rallied in a big way shortly thereafter though, scoring three runs in the top of the second to go up 3-1. After that it was all Citrus. The Owls scored twice more in the fifth, and put the game away with a four spot in the sixth to grab a 9-1 victory.

Preseau again was 2 for 4 with a couple of runs and an RBI. Gil was 2 for 3 with two more RBI's, and Velasquez was 1 for 3 with three runs scored.
