Softball Mercies Canyons In Five

Glendora, CA -- The Citrus College Softball team picked up a big early conference win on Thursday afternoon when they mercied visiting College of the Canyons 9-1 in five innings. The Owls racked up 10 hits, and held the Cougars to just two as they improved to 3-1 in WSC Blue play.

Freshman Valerie Velasquez kept her hot bat going, driving in the game's first run in the bottom of the second inning with an RBI single back up the middle of the field. In the next inning, the Citrus bats exploded, tagging Canyons with eight total runs. Freshmen Erinn Jaramillo and Raven Preseau along with sophomores Raeleen Tellez, Victoria Baltazar, Christina Skelton, Sara Moore, and Alyssa Lozano, all notched RBI's in the half inning.

With a comfortable lead at her back, freshman Miranda Gil took care of business in the circle. Gil gave up just two hits and one total run, while striking out five Cougar batters as she improved to 5-4 on the year.

With the win, Citrus improves to 10-5 overall. The Owls will be on the road this weekend when they take part in a triangular hosted by Cypress College with the Chargers and San Diego Mesa College. The Owls will take on Cypress at 11:00 AM, and then tackled the Olympians at 1:00 PM.
