Cypress, CA -- The Citrus College Softball team played a triangular on Saturday afternoon hosted by Cypress College. The Owls played two games, with a different opponent in each game, and came away with another split with a 0-3 loss to Cypress and an 8-0 win over San Diego Mesa College in five innings.

In the first game against the Chargers, the Owls didn't give Cypress much, but they gave them just enough. Each team had five hits, and one error each, but the difference was their patience at the plate. The Owls failed to draw a single walk, while Cypress drew six, three of which directly led to runs scored by the Chargers. All five of the Owls' hits were spread evenly among the lineup, while freshman Miranda Gil (5-5) was saddled with the loss, giving up all five hits and six walks, while also striking out five.

In the second game, proved far more patient with five total walks, but also came up with some timely hitting. Sophomore Arianna Sanchez helped her own cause in the bottom of the first with an two RBI single. Sanchez then scored in the bottom of the third, but the Owls' big break came in the bottom of the fourth when they scored five unanswered that allowed them to end the game in the fifth. Sanchez, along with freshmen Bobbi Stalnaker and Megan Troutman all had RBI's in the inning to propel Citrus to the win. In the circle, Sanchez (6-1) had one of her best outings of the year, scattering three hits and one walk over five innings of work, while striking out four.

With the win and the loss, the Owls' record moves to 11-6 on the year. Citrus will be at home on Tuesday for another very important early season WSC Blue Division match-up when they host first place Antelope Valley College in a double-header. Game one first pitch is set for 1:00 PM.
