Chula Vista, CA -- The Citrus College Softball team headed South this past weekend, and suffered a sweep at the hands of Southwestern College and Long Beach City College. The Owls opened the day up with a 4-8 loss to Long Beach, before being handed a 2-1 loss to Southwestern.

Things got off to a sloppy start for Citrus as a pair of errors led to four unearned runs for the Vikings in the top of the first inning. The Owls rallied back with a pair of scores, one via an RBI single from freshman Miranda Gil, and the other a sacrifice fly to right from freshman Erinn Jaramillo that made it 2-4.

Still Citrus never really recovered. Long Beach added three more scores in the top of the third, and again the Owls had a smaller answer in the bottom half. Freshman Bobbie Stalnaker drove in a pair, with a single that made it 7-4. The Vikings would put the game away for good with an insurance run in the top of the fifth.

In the second game, the Owls offense was essentially shut down by the Jaguars. Citrus was held to just four hits, two from the bat of sophomore Sara Moore. Moore also drove in the Owls' only run with a solo home run in the top of the sixth. In the circle freshman Miranda Gil did her best to keep the Southwestern bats at bay, surrendering just four hits, while striking out five, but the Jaguars got key hits, in key situations to seal the win.

In the loss, Citrus was led by Moore who 5 for 6 on the day with a pair of runs and an RBI. With the two losses, Citrus drops to 14-8 overall. The Owls will try to rally on Tuesday when they resume WSC Blue play with a double-header at LA Valley College. First pitch is set for 1:00 PM.
