Lancaster, CA -- The Citrus College Softball team hit the road for a tough Western State Conference Blue Division contest on Thursday afternoon, and came back home just short. The Owls matched host Antelope Valley College hit for hit, but an error proved costly in what ended up a 5-6 loss.

Citrus scored right off the bat, getting a run in the top of the first inning. The Marauders answered with a pair in the bottom half of the first, which Citrus tied right back up in the top of the second. Antelope Valley quickly took the lead back in the bottom of the second 3-2, but the Owls grabbed the lead for themselves with a pair of scores in top of the third. The Marauders tied it back up in the bottom of the third, and then ripped the lead right back in the bottom of the fourth. Citrus would tie the game up once more in the top of the fifth, before the Marauders went up for good with a score in the bottom of the sixth.

Sophomore Victoria Baltazar continued to swing a hot bat, going 3 for 4 with a run scored on the day. Freshman Erinn Jaramillo was the only other Owl batter with more than one hit, as she finished 2 for 4 with an RBI.

With the loss, Citrus falls to 21-12 on the year and more importantly 12-4 in WSC Blue play. The Owls will have little time to lick their wounds as they host two of the top teams in the State this weekend for a triangular. Citrus will take on State #3 Santiago Canyon College at 11:00 AM on Saturday, and take on State #12 College of the Desert later in the afternoon at 3:00 PM.
