Owls Sweep WSC Blue Awards

Glendora, CA -- The Citrus College Softball program, fresh off its first WSC Blue Division Championship since 2007, swept the WSC Blue Awards. The Owls had sophomore Sara Moore named Player of the Year, freshman Miranda Gil Pitcher of the Year, and Head Coach Jackie Boxley Coach of the Year.

Moore was one of the top offensive players in the State. Moore batted .552 on the year, the second highest average in the State. Moore was seventh in the entire WSC in runs (40), fifth in doubles (11), and second in home runs (10). Moore led the WSC in on-base percentage (.607) and slugging percentage (.912). Her slugging percentage mark was the 10th highest in the State.  

Gil meanwhile went 12-7 in the circle for Citrus, spending 121.1 innings on the mound. Gil posted a 1.96 ERA on the year, and struck out 124 strikeouts, averaging 7.15 K's per game. Gil's K per game mark was the best in the WSC Blue, second in the entire WSC, and 13th in the CCCAA. Gil also batted .321 with 32 RBI's and nine home runs. Gil and Moore were both also named to the California Community College Fastpitch Coaches Association All-State team.

Boxley meanwhile helped guide the Owls to a 27-13 overall record and 17-4 mark in WSC Blue Division play. The 27 regular season victories, is the most for Citrus since the 2008 season.  

In addition to the three top awards, freshman Erinn Jaramillo was named a 1st team All-WSC Blue honoree and was named to the 3CFCA All-SoCal team. Jaramillo was second on the team with a .426 batting average. Jaramillo scored 39 runs, drove in 30 RBI's, swatted six home runs, and tied with Moore for the team lead with 11 doubles. Jaramillo posted a .474 on-base percentage and a .713 slugging percentage, both the second best marks on the team.

Sophomore Victoria Baltazar was a 2nd team All-WSC Blue selection for Citrus. Baltazar batted .311 for Citrus, scoring 25 runs, and driving in 10 RBI's. Baltazar also made five appearances in the circle for Citrus late in the season, posting  2.17 ERA, a 2-0 record, a save, and 12 K's, in just over 20 innings of work.

Rounding out the post-season awards were freshman short stop Raven Preseau and sophomore pitcher Arianna Sanchez. Both were named All-WSC Blue Honorable Mention honors.  Preseau batted .302 for the Owls with 24 runs scored and 20 RBI's. Sanchez meanwhile was 13-6 and fanned 61 batters in her time in the circle. She also was strong at the plate, where she batted .294, with 21 runs scored, 26 RBI's, a team leading 18 walks, and five home runs.
