Walnut, CA -- The Citrus College Softball team gave it a go on Sunday afternoon, but came up just short. The Owls season ended on the day with a 3-4 loss to host Mt. San Antonio College in the Regional Round of the 2014 CCCAA Playoffs.

Citrus' opponent for the weekend, seemingly picked up right where they left off from Saturday night, with a solo home run in the top of the second inning to quickly take a 1-0 lead. Freshman starting pitcher Miranda Gil settled down though and kept the bleeding to a minimum, holding the Mounties to just three more scores on the day, one more in the third and two more in the fifth.

During the regular season, the Owls averaged just under seven runs a game, but Citrus was never really able to take advantage of key situations on the weekend. That was never more true than in the bottom of the third, when the Owls loaded up the bases with no outs. Citrus came up empty in that inning, and that would be the defining frustration on the day.

Citrus didn't put up some runs until late in the game. In the bottom of the sixth, freshman Erinn Jaramillo led the inning off with a single, and Gil drove her in with a home run two at bats later. Sophomore Alyssa Lozano kept things going with a double, right before freshman Megan Troutman singled to make it 3-4. That was the last of the rally though as Citrus went down in order after that, including in the bottom of the seventh.

With the loss, Citrus' 2014 season remained successful as they won just their second Western State Conference Blue Division title. The Owls' season ends with a 27-15 record.
