Glendora CA — The Citrus College Softball program officially kicked off their 2015 season on Wednesday afternoon when they played host to Pasadena City College. Unfortunately, it didn't go the Owls' way as they gave up eight runs in the top of the fifth in a 10-7 loss.

Pasadena would open up the game by scoring a run in the top of the first inning via a wild pitch. The Owls quickly answered though when freshman Jessica Brown doubled through the left-side of the field, and sophomore Megan Troutman drove in a run thanks to a Lancer fielding miscue to make it 2-1.

The Lancers would tie the game up at 2-2 in the top of the fourth, but the Owls came right back in the bottom half of the inning. Citrus took advantage of another Pasadena fielding error to make it 3-2,. Freshman Kaitlyn Garza then hit a two RBI single to center field, and sophomore Valerie Velasquez an RBI single back up the middle of the infield to make it 6-2 Owls.

In the top half of the very next innings, things took a turn for the worse for Citrus. Pasadena dropped that aforementioned eight spot putting the Owls in a four run hole. Citrus would get a run back on a fielder's choice RBI from sophomore Kiana "Kalei" Giullermo, but that was all as they fell by three.

In the loss, Citrus was led by Garza's 2 for 4 effort at the plate, and by sophomore Bobbi Stalnaker's 3 for 3 day. Citrus falls to 0-1 on the year, and will be back at home on Friday when they play host to Palomar College and Santa Ana College in a triangular that begins at 2:30 PM.
