Orange, CA -- The Citrus College Softball program hit the road over the weekend for a triangular at Santiago Canyon College. The Owls opened up the day with a tough 1-2 loss to the host Hawks before defeating College of the Desert 8-7 shortly thereafter.

In the opening contest, Citrus hung with the Hawks, but just couldn't pull it out in the end. The Owls did get seven hits, but drew zero walks, just the second time that's happened all year. Santiago Canyon would plate the day's first run, when they used a passed ball in the bottom of the first to take a 1-0 lead.

Citrus would tie the game up in the top of the third thanks to an RBI triple from sophomore Erinn Jaramillo that plated sophomore Valerie Velasquez. In the bottom of the sixth, the Hawks would score via an RBI single back up the middle taking a 2-1 lead. Citrus would get a base runner in the top of the seventh, but the next three batters went down in order as the Owls fell by the single score.

In the next game, Citrus' bats finally exploded. The Owls opened up with four runs in the bottom of the first, answering the initial two scores by the Roadrunners in the top half of the inning. Jaramillo along with freshmen Jessica Brown and freshman Autumn Bartholomy all drove in runs to put Citrus up 4-2.

Desert would slowly chip away at the Owl lead, scoring once in the second and twice in the top of the third to take a 5-4 advantage. Citrus flipped the script in the bottom of the fourth when they had another four run spurt, egged on by RBI's from Jaramillo, Brown, and sophomore Megan Troutman that made it 8-5. The Roadrunners would keep the Owls on their toes with two more scores in the top of the sixth, but sophomore Anissa Gallegos slammed the door shut in the top of the seventh to secure the win.

With the win and the loss, Citrus moves to 14-5 overall. The Owls will be back out on the road this Tuesday when they travel to Antelope Valley College for a Western State Conference Blue Division double-header. Game one's first pitch is set for a 1:00 PM start.
