Glendora, CA — The Citrus College Softball team got out of the gates fast on Thursday afternoon when they hosted Los Angeles Mission College in WSC Blue Division action. The Owls scored eight runs in the first two innings on their way to their 20th win of the year, the fastest a Citrus Softball team has ever reached that milestone in program history.

The Owls literally didn't waste a moment at the plate, as freshman Kaitlyn Garza led off the bottom of first inning with a solo blast to left field. After freshman Stephanie Noriega and sophomore Erinn Jaramillo reached base via an error and a walk, freshman Jessica Brown made it 4-0 with a line drive shot over the center field fence. Seconds later, sophomore Megan Troutman got in on the fun with a solo jack to left field that put Citrus up big early.

Citrus would keep things going in the bottom of the second. Jaramillo picked up an RBI driving in Garza with a single to left field. Troutman would add another to her resume a few at bats later with a bases loaded hit by pitch. Freshman Autumn Bartholomy then got in on the action with a sacrifice fly to left that scored Jaramillo and made it 8-0.

Over the next two innings, Mission would scratch out three runs and try to make their way back into the game. Sophomore Valerie Velasquez put an end to that thought though in the bottom of the fourth when she stopped a 1 for 11 stretch with a three run bomb to make it 11-3.

With the win, Citrus improves to 20-6 overall and 9-1 in WSC Blue play. The Owls will take a break from conference action this Saturday when they host a strong Southwestern College (18-14) at noon.
