Freshman Jessica Brown was 4 for 5 with three runs and six RBI's in Citrus' win over Grossmont on Saturday.

Glendora, CA — Despite committing five total errors, and trailing for much of the game, the Citrus College Softball team found a way to overcome. The Owls eight of their nine runs in the final two innings to knock off host Grossmont College 9-2.

Things got off to a rough start for Citrus as the Griffins scored right away with an unearned run in the bottom of the first. It took two innings for the Owls to answer, as freshman Jessica Brown hit a solo home run in the top of the third to make it 1-1. The lead only last for an inning as the Griffins scored another unearned run in the bottom of the fourth to make it 2-1.

Trailing by one, the Owls' offense came alive in the top of the sixth. With the bases loaded and one out, Brown stepped to the plate and doubled to left-center, clearing the bases and turning the tables. The Owls weren't done though as freshman Stephanie Noriega added a double to right-center that made it 5-2.

The Owls kept it going in the top of the seventh. After sophomore Valerie Velasquez opened the inning with a walk, freshman Kali Smith doubled to right field scoring Velasquez from first. Sophomore Sandra "Gaby" Vera followed that up with a single up the middle of the field that scored Smith. Two at bats later, Brown hit her second home run of the game, driving in two runs and making it 9-2.

In the win, freshman pitcher Anissa Gallegos was solid. Gallegos surrendered six total hits, walked just one batter, and didn't give up an earned run. She also struck out five Griffin batters on the day as she won her 20th game of the season.

With the win, Citrus improves to 26-8 overall. The Owls will get back in WSC Blue play on Tuesday when they host Glendale College in a double-header. First pitch of game one is set for 1:00 PM.
